The girl is a doctor and the guy, an engineer. Let us call the doctor Haley and the engineer Skiff. Haley works on the 7th floor in building number 8 of the Panesbero General Hospital. Skiff is over-looking the construction of the new Psychiatric Wing on the 3rd floor of building number 4.
In about two sentences, their worlds are going to collide.
It is a little late in the afternoon. Sipping her coffee, she swipes right. Drinking his tea, he swipes right.
“You killed him, he is dead”, Haley said. “There now, you are in shock. Slowly, let go of the gun, slowly now. Take my hand.”
After some reluctance, Skiff lets go of the gun. Haley holds his hand and hugs him and waits for the help to arrive. 11 people died that evening in the diner when someone opened fire at the customers. Both Haley and Skiff are glad that their dates didn’t show up.
Skiff doesn’t know it yet, but he is going to be a local hero. Haley doesn’t know it yet, but Skiff is going to marry her best friend. They don’t know it yet, but four hours ago they had both swiped right for the same person.
This post was initially a response to a question which was asked to me – What can be some good short stories starting from the line, “The girl is a doctor and guy is an engineer”?
