Step by step, upon my words

A child learns the ways of the world, as told by his mother, step by step, slowly like a snail

I took       the long way back, mom
I took       the long way back home, you told
me           how things would be, you told me all that I
could       be, though you did not tell me what I would be,
but           you did say what I should be. Step by step walk up
walk         upon these words, step by step move on, move on upon my
words       you said – there is no one else in this whole wide world, no one who
feels         for you like I do, cares for you like I do, think of you, loves you like I would.
This         walk of yours, step by step, as you climb upon my words, snail them and make them
yours       then you will say my words,I took the long way back mom, I took the long way back home.
